Daegu 2011 - Injuries and Illness Surveillance

Daegu, Korea - The 2011 IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011 are the third occasion that the IAAF has employed an Injuries and Illnesses Surveillance study at the biennial World Championships, which is the pinnacle competition of the IAAF World Athletics Series of events.

Bolt wows fans in first worlds outing

DAEGU: Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt made his bow at the world championships on the opening night of action on Saturday, wowing the Korean crowd as he eased into the 100m semifinals.

Today is the big day. We opened the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 this morning. The Women’s Marathon kicked off at the Championships at 9:00 a.m in Daegu.

Edna Kiplagat of Kenya won the race in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 43 seconds to claim the first gold medal of the competition. Jeptoo (2:29:00) and Cherop (2:29:14) followed her across the line to complete the sweep.

Brussels, Belgium – World record holder Usain Bolt will compete in the 200m at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme, the final leg of the Samsung Diamond League, on 16 September, organisers announced today.

Brussels organisers were pleased to learn that Bolt’s initial plan to end his season after the World Championships has changed.

Daegu 2011 World Champioship


The Organizing Committee for the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 (LOC) prepared 90 sets of medals (a total of 270 medals). Then all of the medals are for athletes? The answer is “No”.

Eighty-eight sets out of 90 are given to the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), and 2 set are kept with the LOC for commemoration. IAAF uses only 79 sets out of 88 for the actual medal ceremonies and the rest 9 sets are kept for spares.

Athletics World Plan Press Points – Daegu 2011


Daegu, Korea – Six of athletics biggest stars, representing each of the six IAAF Areas, joined IAAF President Lamine Diack to celebrate the “final lap” of the Athletics World Plan 2003-2012.


After the presentation on the final day of the 48th IAAF Congress, Meseret Defar, Allyson Felix, Fabiana Murer, Steven Hooker, Koji Murofushi, and Andreas Thorkildsen met with members of the international press to discuss their plans and preparations for the IAAF World Championships, which get underway in just two days time.
